Orientation for first-time travelers

Start Here: Plan Your Bhutan Trip

Match your situation to the right guides, then write to us with dates.

Who We Serve

We plan for first-time Bhutan travelers, returning culture walkers, family groups with school-age children, photographers working within temple rules, and fit trekkers heading to Jomolhari or Druk Path. Groups run 1 to 12 travelers. Independent couples form most of our calendar. If you need guaranteed heating, step-free rooms, or pediatric proximity, we shape the route around those limits from the first draft.

Pick Your Situation

  1. First trip, 7 days. Read the 7-day route, the triangle order guide, and the visa permit SDF explainer. Then read the Taktsang hike guide before judging fitness.
  2. Festival focus. Read the festival calendar first, then the photography permits guide and the packing checklist. Write 5 to 6 months ahead for Paro and Thimphu weeks.
  3. Trekking. Fit walkers read the Druk Path 5-day plan for a short trek or the Jomolhari day-by-day for the full expedition. Pair either with the packing checklist and the farmstay guide for recovery nights.
  4. Nature and valleys. Crane watchers read the Phobjikha guide plus the Bumthang valleys guide. November to January suits cranes, October suits clear walking.
  5. Family or comfort questions. Parents read the kids feasibility guide. Budget planners read the luxury lodges versus local hotels comparison. Nepal combiners read the two-week Nepal plus Bhutan plan.

Costs to Hold in Mind

Budget 250 to 350 dollars per person per day for guiding, transport, and mid-range hotels for two travelers, plus the SDF of 100 dollars per person per night and a 40 dollar visa fee. Treks run 280 to 400 dollars per person per day with crew plus SDF. Luxury lodges run 800 to 1,500 dollars per room per night. These ranges anchor every proposal we send.

Next Step

Write to hello@prayerflagvoyages.com with dates, group size, and interests. We reply within 2 business days with questions or a proposal. No payment is due before you approve the route and the price lines.

Lead Times

Standard valley trips need 6 to 8 weeks. Festival trips need 4 to 6 months. Treks need 8 to 12 weeks for crew booking and gear checks. Nepal combinations need 10 to 12 weeks so both countries align. Writing early costs nothing and holds better rooms and guides.
